Pick EMOM 10–20 for one-minute rounds, E2MOM for two-minute windows, or EMOM 30s for shorter cycles.
Set the work for each minute
Decide reps or a small complex you can finish with rest left in the minute.
Start on the beep
Press Start timer. Begin work at the start of each round; recover with time remaining.
Adjust if you miss rest
If you regularly run to the next beep with zero rest, reduce reps or switch to E2MOM.
What is an EMOM timer?
EMOM means Every Minute On the Minute. At the start of each minute you begin the prescribed work; any time left before the next minute is rest. An EMOM timer simply marks those minute (or multi-minute) boundaries with clear cues.
Timer PRO’s free EMOM timer online covers common lengths — 10, 12, 15, and 20 minutes — plus E2MOM (every 2 minutes) and denser 30-second rounds.
EMOM vs E2MOM vs AMRAP
Standard EMOM uses 60-second rounds. E2MOM gives a 2-minute window — better for heavier lifts, longer rowing pieces, or complexes that need more time. EMOM 30s is for short skill bursts or cardio spikes.
Unlike AMRAP, EMOM forces a rhythm: you cannot “borrow” rest from later rounds as easily. If you want one continuous cap instead, use the AMRAP timer.
Sample EMOM workouts
EMOM 12 strength: odd minutes 3 front squats; even minutes 6 pull-ups (or ring rows).
EMOM 10 conditioning: 12/10 cal bike or 15 kettlebell swings each minute — scale so you get 15–20 seconds rest.
E2MOM 10: 3 clean and jerks + 6 burpees every 2 minutes at a controlled pace.
Skill: EMOM 30s × 16 for double-under practice or handstand hold attempts. For classic 20/10 finishers, open Tabata; for WOD caps, see CrossFit or AMRAP.
Coaching tips
Choose a volume you can sustain with some rest left almost every round. Zero rest for many minutes means the prescription is too heavy.
Rotate movements across minutes (triplet EMOMs) to manage local fatigue — the CrossFit timer includes a Triplet EMOM preset.
Record unbroken vs broken sets so you can progress reps or load next week.
Frequently asked questions
What does EMOM stand for?
Every Minute On the Minute. You start the work at the beginning of each minute and rest with whatever time remains.
What is E2MOM?
Every 2 Minutes On the Minute — the same idea with a 2-minute working window. Timer PRO’s E2MOM 10 preset runs ten of those windows.
Is this EMOM timer free?
Yes. It works in your browser with no account. The Timer PRO iOS app is optional for offline training and voice cues.
How much rest should I have each minute?
A common target is at least 10–20 seconds left in a 60-second EMOM. If you have none, reduce reps, load, or switch to E2MOM.
Can I customize the number of minutes?
Yes. Start from a preset, then open the custom interval timer to set any number of rounds and interval length.
